A man was shot and killed by police Friday after officers responded to an overdose call, according to a news release from the Monett, Missouri Police Department.
Monett Chief of Police George Dauod says the officer responded to a home in the 400 block of North Central Avenue about 5 p.m., reported KY3.
According to the news release, “an officer contacted the subject and the situation escalated. The Monett Police Officer discharged his weapon.”
The shot hit the man, and an ambulance took him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The officer has been put on administrative leave during the investigation.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Divison of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the shooting and no further information will be released until the investigation is finished.
