When Trump gave classified information to Russian leaders, it wasn’t just classified US information he gave up, it was also Israel’s.
On Tuesday, the New York Times revealed that Israel was the source for the classified information that President Donald Trump revealed to Russian government officials last week, according to Brad Reed of Raw Story.
Now an unnamed Israeli intelligence officer told BuzzFeed they are very concerned about the leak — despite the fact that the government is publicly saying that it won’t change its intelligence-sharing relationship with the United States.
“We have an arrangement with America which is unique to the world of intelligence sharing,” the official explained. “We do not have this relationship with any other country… There is a special understanding of security cooperation between our countries. To know that this intelligence is shared with others, without our prior knowledge? That is, for us, our worst fears confirmed.”
The same official told BuzzFeed earlier this year that Israeli intelligence agencies had major concerns about what Trump might share with Russia, which is a close ally of Iran, one of Israel’s enemies.
Israel is mad that Trump gave up their classified information, but they see the future use of the incident to be able to bully Trump as a silver lining.
“We are concerned about our long-term intelligence gathering operations,” said the Ministry of Defense official. “But politically [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] Bibi sees a way to get what he wants out of Trump. He can say to Trump, you screwed us, now give us this or that.”
Not only did Trump divulge classified information, he also put himself in a bad position for future dealings with Israel.
