Jewish School and Community Center Evacuated After Bomb Threat

Another bomb threat has been made against Jewish people. This time, they targeted children.

A Jewish day school and community center in Davie FL have reopened after a bomb threat caused an evacuation Monday morning.

The David Posnack Jewish Day School and community center were reopened at about 11:30 a.m. – hours after getting a bomb threat at about 9:20 a.m. reported CBS Miami.

With a lot of false bomb threats and hate crimes against American Jews since Trump’s campaign began, the Police captain did not think it was a credible threat but still used all resources needed to make sure the buildings were safe.

Davie Police Captain Dale Engle said it was “not a credible threat” but considerable resources were expended, because “all of these things have to be taken seriously.”

Students and staff from both the day school and the Jewish Community Center could be seen dispersed in the field and parking lot around 10 a.m. as Davie Police investigated the report. Shortly after that, students and staff were moved to a nearby church.

Parents were notified about the terrorist threat and were told they could pick up their children from a nearby church.

“It said that there is an alert. Pick your kid up at church down the street,” said parent David Lopate.

“We got the phone call and I came right away,” said parent Elliot Zvi.

“I was very scared because I didn’t know what was happening,” said student Noah Zvi.

“I know the risks of going to a Jewish school,” said student Daisy Lopate.

Monday’s event is just one of many threats to Jewish Community Centers that are causing concern in South Florida. The threats are becoming more prevalent nationwide with at least 69 reported since January 1st.

White nationalist groups have been heavily targeting Jewish and Islamic groups for hate crimes, aka terrorist attacks. They have increased since Trump began his campaign, but have drastically increased since he won the election as leaders among the racist movement described his victory as a “real opportunity for us.” They even asked Trump to “Show no mercy” to these minority groups.

Trump has responded by ignoring these terrorist attacks and threats against Jews and Muslims, pretending they don’t exist. When his spokespeople are asked about them, they change the topic instead of giving a real answer.

In South Florida, bomb threats have forced evacuations at JCC locations in Kendall, Miami Beach, Pinecrest and Palm Beach Gardens in the past few weeks.

The FBI and the Civil Rights Division for the Justice Department have launched investigations into the bomb threats.

In Miami Beach over the weekend, there were reports of swastikas keyed on vehicles in a predominantly orthodox Jewish community. Also, in Sunny Isles Beach, a swastika was drawn on the front door of a synagogue.

Law enforcement officials say they take the threats seriously and work with other agencies to solve the problems.

“This is something we prepare for on a daily basis. We have other agencies assisting us,” said Engle.

The Trump administration has continued to provide opportunities for these hate groups to flourish and physically express their hatred towards non white Christians. We need a president that is opposed to race and religious based violence and hatred, rather than one that encourages it.
