Trump isn’t any stranger to folks not taking his word. He has, after all- a track record of making outrageous claims and proclamations (even on record) only to deny they ever occurred or play down their severity. He rarely takes accountability for his lies- instead he passes blame, or deflects, onto others. A recent example of this would be the revelation of a crude discussion about women he had with ”Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush- he went on to downplay it’s inappropriateness by saying that “Bill Clinton has said worse”. His pathological lying has caused even those closest to him to mistrust him, from co workers, to employees and even those he seeks counsel with.
As David Edwards of Raw Story writes:
Donald Trump’s own bankruptcy lawyers testified that they had a policy of not meeting with the real estate mogul alone because he had a “problem” of constantly lying.
On Tuesday, Buzzfeed published thousands of pages of court filings from three of Trump’s bankruptcies in the 1990s. Twitter user @nycsouthpaw highlighted several pages from the Trump Plaza depositions, which reveal the extraordinary steps Trump’s lawyers took to deal with his tenuous relationship with the truth.

In one document, bankruptcy attorney George Miller reveals that when meeting with Trump, “it’s always been our practice to make sure that two people are present, and we don’t have a problem with people lying.”
Miller calls Trump “an expert at interpreting things. Let’s put it that way.”
“We tried to [meet in pairs] with Donald always if we could because Donald says certain things and then has a lack of memory,” he says in the deposition.
In diplomatic situations where treaties have to be made and understandings met, he will have to keep his word and he will no longer be able to deflect responsibility if he becomes the next President of the United States. If lawyers hired by Trump could not even him enough to meet with him alone without having a witness to corroborate statements made by him, due to him lying so much- what does that say about how much the American people should trust him? As the lawyers said themselves, the are used to people lying, but even for them- Trump lies too much, and too often.
