Drive-Thru Marijuana Is Now A Thing

The nation’s first recreational marijuana dispensary opens on 4/20, and it touts fast food-style convenience.

Now that recreational marijuana is legal in Oregon, some entrepreneurs have decided to market the drive-thru to residents who can’t get the stuff fast enough.
Need some marijuana after a hard day at work? The Gold Beach dispensary, near the border of California, says they have the solution for you.
The grand opening is set for April 20th, a well-known “cannabis culture” reference. “Four Twenty” is a code-term that refers to the consumption of cannabis and by extension, as a way to identify oneself with the culture of marijuana use. Observances based on the number 420 include smoking cannabis around the time 4:20 p.m., as well as smoking and celebrating cannabis on the date April 20.
The Gold Beach’s drive-thru figured this would be the best date to open the groundbreaking dispensary.
There are two other medical dispensaries that offer drive-thru service in Washington and Detroit, Michigan. But neither offer recreational marijuana.
The drive-thru is located across the street from a hospital and its owners say the purpose is to be akin to a drive-thru pharmacy.
“I believe this venture is going to be quite an asset to the area,” Curry County Economic Development Director Julie Schmelzer said in an interview with Oregon Live.
Schmelzer noted that this could “help Gold Beach and the southwestern coast become a destination for those interested in the new green tourism.”
