Police Brutality

Police were caught on video beating a woman in Carlsbad, California and it was all over an alleged seatbelt violation.

Now, that woman is suing the police for the officer punching her in the face repeatedly, while he was making an arrest for something that was never an arrestable offense in the first place.

The New York Daily News reported that 40-year-old Cindy Hahn was arrested and beaten in 2013. Throughout the whole ordeal, her two children, 7 and 11 years old, were forced to look on and watch in horror.

Hahn’s complaint, dated July 31, 2013, says that she and her children had just left a birthday party. That’s when they found a vehicle unoccupied with its alarm going off.

Cops surrounded the vehicle, but the alarm was still blaring.

Hahn’s father is a police officer, incidentally. She says that’s part of the reason why she asked an officer the reason why police hadn’t shut off the car alarm.

Court documents identified the officer as Kenyatte Valentine. He told her to mind her “own fucking business.”

Hahn then called the police, on a non-emergency line, to complain about Officer Valentine’s conduct.

But then, as she pulled away, Valentine followed and pulled her over. He said she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt.

That’s when Valentine had a second officer pull her from her car and pin her to the ground.

“I can feel hands on me. It’s the weirdest feeling,” Hahn said in an interview with local KCAL-TV.

The complaint further said that “Ms. Hahn was transported to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with head and brain contusions and subsequently diagnosed with a concussion based on the defendant police officer’s violence. Ms. Hahn suffers permanent memory loss and brain trauma as well as other physical and emotional injuries from the beating.”

Carlsbad police officials stated that “we are prepared to provide a complete and detailed account of the facts of this incident in a courtroom, not in the media.”

In other words: no comment.
