Texas Police Shoot UNARMED Man In HOSPITAL

Police Brutality

On Thursday afternoon, the Houston police shot a man at the St. Joseph’s hospital. That man was an unarmed patient.

Now, the shooting, involving two off-duty Houston Police Department officers has made even a lot of ardent police apologists admit that the police went overboard on this one.

Just after we reported on Texas police shooting a man who had left a hospital and needed help, we received word that Alan Christopher Pean, 26, was shot in the abdomen Thursday morning, on the 8th floor of the St. Joseph Medical Center.

Staff members say that they contacted two HPD officers who were there working security.

“When the officers arrived, he then began struggling with the officers, attempting to injure the officers,” HPD Spokesman Keese Smith released in an official statement on the shooting. “The officers initially deployed a Taser, and when that taser had no effect, his partner then discharged a duty weapon striking the suspect.”

Pean’s family has hired high-profile attorney Mark O’Mara in their quest for answers. O’Mara is well known for having defended George Zimmerman, and ultimately having his client acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin back in 2013.

O’Mara released the following statement to local ABC-13…

“Alan Pean’s family has hired me to represent their son and brother in the struggle that lies ahead. The family has told me that Alan went to the hospital to seek help for a mental health condition. Unfortunately, He condition worsened at the hospital, an altercation ensued, and he was shot. Now Alan is recovering, and his condition is uncertain, and there is a lot we don’t know. The family needs answers about what happened to Alan. I’m here to help them get those answers, and I have had brief contact with law enforcement and will be working to figure out what happened and why.”

Pean is currently in the ICU for the gunshot wound.

Houston police and the Harris County DA say “the officer did nothing wrong.”
