Woman Faces 30 Years In Prison For Using Medical Marijuana

Imagine suffering from a disease and being told that the only treatment that is helping will land you in prison for 30 years!

That’s exactly what is happening to Shona Banda. She’s been suffering from Crohn’s disease for nearly a decade.

According to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Crohn’s is a chronic bowel disease. It results in severe pain from inflammation in the sufferer’s intestinal tract. It causes incredible joint pain, in part due to the body’s inability to absorb food and water properly.

The last resort for the 38-year-old mother of two was to try medical marijuana. But she has had serious concerns about this controversial treatment, not because she thinks it’s dangerous, but because she lives in Kansas.

Kansas has some of the most bizarre and oppressive laws against medical marijuana use in the country.

According to Banda, her joints hurt so badly that she barely got up from the couch. That changed once she began treatment with cannabis oil.

“I’m not in my deathbed, I’m working for the first time in four years, I’m hiking, I’m swimming, I’m able to play with my kids, I’m able to do things — I love it,” Banda explained.

Banda documented her experiences and improvements of health in a memoir titled Live Free or Die, as well as in a YouTube documentary.

Initially, she thought moving to Colorado would be the best choice for her situation. She was unable to make the move, however, due to financial restraints.

Where things got really tricky was when one of her children challenged their teachers, who had been spouting anti-marijuana propaganda at school. Banda’s son informed them of the miraculous improvements that his mother had experienced since beginning cannabis oil treatment.

The boy was quickly called to the office, at school, and Child Protective Services were notified. CPS then called local law enforcement, demanding that action be taken to stop this family’s “Reefer Madness.”

The local law enforcement raided the house, and found more than pound of the illicit plant, and equipment used to extract oil from it. The officers were outraged, claiming that the plant and extracted oil was kept “within easy reach of the child.”

Banda was forced to turn her self in for arrest recently. She has posted a $50,000 bond, thanks in large part to a GoFundMe crowdfunding account that was set up on her behalf (and which still needs your support).

As things currently stand, she still doesn’t have custody of her son, and she is facing up to 30 years in prison… all for taking medicine for her Crohn’s Disease – medicine extracted from a plant! If you agree that this is absolutely insane, help us SPREAD THE WORD and donate whatever you can to help her out in her quest for justice and for health!
