According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, their deputies were called to a house at around 12:30 in the morning. It was a domestic violence call.

The suspect, Mardaniyn Sellers, was allegedly in a domestic “situation” with his wife. It sounds like he was beating her, right?

Sellers’ mother says his wife of two years and her family are to blame for the call.

“He says his wife’s family jumped on him and beat him up,” she explained. “From what I understand, he was defending himself and they call police on him.”

The police automatically assumed Sellers was the one who initiated violence, so they drew their guns on him.

Sellers had armed himself with a hunting rifle, before police had arrived. But as he saw police approach, he put the rifle down.

But that’s when the police started shooting at him, even though he had not broken a single law, before they arrived or during their approach.

“It’s an unfortunate situation. It’s shocking,” neighbor Amber Partee said. “I did hear a boom or some type of noise and then all of a sudden we just saw lights and sirens.”

Sellers has been charged with aggravated assault against a member of law enforcement and is being held on a $2 million bond.
