This Protester May Just Be Best Police Officer In History

Retired Philadelphia Police Captain Ray Lewis might just be the greatest cop in history.

Throughout the police brutality and censorship in Ferguson, Missouri, Lewis has stood shoulder to shoulder with the protesters, and give the corrupt, rogue police a piece of his mind.

Ever-humble, Lewis ays that he only doing what any “good cop” would do. That doesn’t speak well for many of the other officers out there, who are in fact doing very much the opposite of what Lewis is doing.

The retired captain has also lent his knowledge and experience to the Occupy Wall Street movement. Both within the Occupy Movement and in Ferguson, he has helped mentor activists, telling them how to respond to police provocations.

“These people have been exploited and oppressed their entire lives, and now they have their own police department perhaps murdering one of their own,” Lewis said in an interview with the AFP.

“I came out to show solidarity with them,” he added.

After serving for 24 years with the Philadelphia police force, Lewis also said he is fighting to end the so-called “War on Drugs,” which he says is really a war on everyday, average citizens. Disturbingly, he notes, these citizens are disproportionately non-white, even though drug use is approximately the same in Caucasian communities.

Philadelphia’s current police commissioner is not too happy about all of the retired captain’s activist. He reluctantly admitted, however, that there is really nothing he can do about it.
