A video taken from a home in Wareham, Massachusetts, posted to Facebook and YouTube by a local man, is going viral. The man filmed two police officers who came to his home who were apparently way out of line, and way outside of the law.
On Wednesday morning at 10:37 a.m., local police received a 911 call from the man’s neighbor. The neighbor said that the people inside 17 Camardo Drive had been fighting, and that a 3-year-old girl was unsupervised outside.
The 911 operator dispatched two officers. Richard Phillips, 39, says that when these officers came to the door, he told them that he was filming them, because the residents there had not done anything illegal. That’s when the police lost it.
One Wareham police officer attempted to slap the phone right out of his hand, on his own property. Instead, however, the officer slapped his 58-year-old mother, Trudy Phillips.
“I got hit by that cop. He went bang and I went to go reach out to the wall,” Trudy recounted.
Richard said “it took me a second to realize” what happened after the officer took a swing.
Wareham police said that the Trudy Phillips “was transported from the scene by Wareham EMS to Tobey Hospital, and released shortly after her arrival from the hospital.”
The family is demanding that the officer be fired and criminally charged for assault
All police would say is that “the matter is under investigation.”
