Racist Chants From The Crowd Brought This Soccer Star To Tears

Race and Ethnicity, Racism and Hate Groups

Famous striker Mario Balotelli was recently the victim of racial abuse by angry crowds. In the middle of a game on Saturdya, Balotelli was brought to tears. The away game at Napoli brought on racist chants directed at him by the crowd.
A tweet about the incident can be seen below:
In the past, Balotelli has been the target of racist epithets which have targeted him for the color of his skin and his African heritage. Balotelli was also heckled by Italy supporters during a pre-World Cup training camp. He has also even faced anti-Jewish bigotry, as he was raised by a Jewish woman.
Italy’s best selling Sports Gazette depicted the star footballer as the fictional giant ape, “King Kong”. In their cartoon, the Sports Gazette depicted him climbing up England’s “Big Ben”, which is now known as “Elizabeth’s Tower”.
Some tried to dismiss his tears back then as reaction to a paternity test. But coach Clarence Seedorf rationalized to Sky Sport Italia, that “we are players and there are times when we express ourselves that way. I see nothing wrong or abnormal in that. I experienced it at times too. What can I say about Balotelli’s tears?”
“They were the tears of a sportsman,” he continued, trying to shrug off the real cause of the tears.
Watch the video and let us know if you think he was crying because of a paternity test tweet, or perhaps from what he heard from the crowd…
